Abstract:

In the past few decades, most emerging infectious diseases were caused by pathogens from wildlife, including coronaviruses. Among all recognized hosts, bats(Chiroptera) are considered as the natural reservoir for coronaviruses, as they harbored a large number of ancient and genetically diverse coronaviruses. Although rodents(Rodentia) are generally considered as remarkable Order for zoonotic transmission, little reviews have been conducted to introduce the rodent-associated coronaviruses and assess their potential threat. This review summarized the latest research on the prevalence of rodent-associated coronaviruses(RCoV) and discussed the clues between the emergence of two human coronaviruses and RCoVs. By analyzing the distinct host habits and the molecular characteristics of the RCoVs, the zoonosis potential of RCoVs were assessed.
