Abstract:

This review systematically examines the characteristics of glycoprotein gG encoded by the US4 geneof alphaherpesviruses and its roles in viral infection, virulence, neuroinvasion, chemokine binding, and innateimmune regulation. The mechanism by which gG modulates chemokine activity and influences neural signaltransduction, as well as its potential applications in vaccine development and diagnostics, are analyzed. Thisreview provides a reference for further investigations into the function of the US4 gene in human and animalalphaherpesviruses and its implications for prevention and control strategies.
